The gallery subscribes to important biographical dictionaries which are fundamental for researching both artists and individuals.

Oxford Art Online

Oxford Art Online has merged five biographical resources into one platform. They include: the Grove Dictionary of Art, the Benezit Dictionary of Painters, the Concise Oxford Dictionary of Art Terms, the Encyclopaedia of Aesthetics, and the Oxford Companion to Western Art. It has over 45,000 articles on every aspect of the visual arts from prehistory to the present. It also features over 100,000 searchable images.

Dictionary of National Biography (DNB)

This important online resource is updated three times a year and provides biographies of nearly 60,000 men and women who have shaped British history, including many Irish figures. The time period covered ranges from Roman times to the 21st century. It also includes over 11,000 portraits and over 500 themed articles for reference and research purposes.

Dictionary of Irish Biography

Published by Cambridge University Press, is a database covering people from early Irish history up to the beginning of this century. It is the most comprehensive and authoritative biographical dictionary for Ireland. The database features over 9,000 biographical entries relating to Irish personalities involved in the arts, politics, law, religion, literature, journalism, architecture, painting, music, the stage, science, medicine, engineering, entertainment and sport.
