The Art Bulletin, Published by the CAA (College Art Association)

The Art Bulletin publishes leading scholarship in the English language in all aspects of art history as practiced in the academy, museums, and other institutions. It provides peer reviewed, scholarly articles and critical reviews of the highest quality in all areas and periods of the history of art. Articles take a variety of methodological approaches, from the historical to the theoretical.  

International Journal of Education through Art.

An interdisciplinary publication, this journal focuses on contemporary art education practice in formal and informal learning contexts. Peer-reviewed articles, in the form of research reports and critical essays, address topics including aesthetics, art theory, visual arts education, music, drama, dance, and education in literature.  

Studies in Conservation

An international, peer-reviewed journal aimed at researchers and practitioners in the arts, archaeology, built heritage, materials history amongst others. Articles relate to developments and best practice in the conservation of historic and artistic works.  

Visual Culture in Britain

This journal focuses on British art from the 18th century to the present day. Articles include examinations of painting and sculpture, architecture and design, print, film, photography and the performing arts, in relation to its wider geographical and historical contexts. The periodical occasionally publishes articles and reviews on Irish art and artists.

Museum Management and Curatorship

An international peer-reviewed journal, aimed at museum professionals, educators, and researchers, with articles covering current issues in museum practice, including collections management, communications, conservation, governance, interpretation, leadership, new technology and professional ethics.  

 

VRA Visual Resources Association Bulletin

The VRA Bulletin is the journal of the Visual Resources Association, an international association of image media professionals. The mission of the VRA Bulletin is to serve the membership of the VRA by providing a professional forum for the discussion and dissemination of ideas and information directly related the field of visual resources. It is a journal of professional practice documenting the research, ideas, projects, activities, and history of the Visual Resources Association as well as the broader work of information professionals in image management. Articles authored by members of the Association and like-minded information professionals from outside VRA, cover a wide range of topics including: digital imaging and digital projects; cataloguing and classification systems; historical collections and archives; data standards; education and professional development; intellectual property rights and copyright; library automation; collection development; digital curation and preservation; visual literacy and instruction; and, professional standards and ethics.

Museum Practice (a branch of the Museum Journal)  

Each monthly edition of Museum Practice examines a different area within the profession, with opportunities for readers to contribute case studies and share best practice. Museum Practice also features an ‘Ask the Expert Q&A’ on a different issue within the field of museums.  

Konsthistorisk tidskrift / Journal of Art History

The Konsthistorisk tidskrift is a quarterly peer-reviewed Swedish academic journal on art history that was established in 1932 by Konsthistoriska sällskapet (the Society of Art Historians) in Stockholm. Since 2002 it has carried the English alternate title.  Email library@ngi.ie for access details. 

Journal of the Warburg and Courtauld Institutes

This journal, featuring articles by international contributors, focuses on new research in the field of cultural and intellectual history. Topics covered include art and architecture, religion, philosophy, science, and literature as well as intellectual, political, and social life, often with an emphasis on their relation to the civilisation of antiquity.
